The Moon and Blackbirds

Seeing thousands of blackbirds taking off this morning with the big, beautiful moon in the background was incredible. I wish I’d had more time for setting up the shot, but that’s rarely possible with wildlife photography, and that’s just one of the beautiful things about it.

More Wakarusa Wetlands magic

Little specks of yellow dot the fields and the green is lush and fragrant. Dragonflies are everywhere. Thousands of voices sing. On this morning, I spotted deer, a host of blackbirds, grackles, robins, sparrows, catbirds, indigo buntings, painted buntings, northern cardinals, goldfinches, a huge diversity of frogs, a dickcissel singing loudly, wood ducks, turtles (snappers and painted), geese, great egrets, great blue herons, cattle egrets, little blue herons, mink, muskrats, and the hundreds more. Frosty Robins

I ran across hundreds of robins, quite a few starlings, and one lone grackle drinking and bathing in the icy water on the east side of Clinton Lake the other day. They were fun to watch until I realized I’d been standing there so long my face was frozen. 🙂 Of course, the beauty of Kansas is that it will reach 62 today. Click on pictures to enlarge.
