While it hasn’t started snowing yet, the rain and sleet have arrived. I went out to the yard to take a few pictures and noticed little bits of green poking out. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Brown creeper
I have never been able to get a closer look at this little bird. They are so small and have great camouflage. I was overjoyed to see this one working the tree right in front of me. What a cutie! Click on pictures to enlarge.

A little aerial play
Last week, when the snow started melting and the sun came out, it seemed everyone was whooping it up. I took a drive to the river to see what the eagles were up to and found several having a good time riding the thermals and doing some air combat play. There were six at one time, but they flew so high, I could only get semi-clear pictures of a few. It certainly was fun to watch. Click on pictures to enlarge.
A murder of crows
You know I just posted this so I could type, “A murder of crows.” 🙂 Click on picture to enlarge.
Sunrise at the nest
Most of the nests we watch seem to be occupied. Here’s hoping for a great spring. Click on picture to enlarge.
Honoring starlings and house sparrows
Great horned owl nest
We’ve been keeping an eye on this great horned owl nest out west of town. We think she nested here last year, but something happened and the nest was abandoned. We saw her early in the season, but then saw a red-tailed hawk in the nest a bit later in the spring. Hopefully, they will be successful this year. We’ll keep checking in. Swans?
I was pretty far away, so I’m not sure about the id. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Tough weather for herons
The bitter cold we’ve been experiencing lately makes it hard for birds like herons to find open water. Fortunately, the next several days look to be quite the warm up. Click on pictures to enlarge.
