Squirrel play

I watched this squirrel having a grand time this morning with an old vine. He was like a kitten pulling it,  chasing it, rolling around. Fun to watch! And, it’s fun to have some snow-free days to hang out in the yard. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Squirrels have big fun

These two know how to have fun. They threw each other around all up and down the tree, then rolled around on the ground for a while. I know some of the pictures make it look like fighting, but there was no malice involved, just play, and perhaps some courtship? 🙂 Click on pictures to enlarge.

I don’t think I’ll comment on this one…

Tomato thief

I am very happy to share with the squirrels. We regularly put out apple cores and other goodies. However, this  young squirrel delights in green roma tomatoes. While, I watched, he ate about half of one and discarded it. He then started back toward the patio for more with no regard that I was standing right in front of the plant. I couldn’t stop laughing. He stopped short of taking another one while I was there, but of course, he came back later.  Click on pictures to enlarge.

Tasty apples

Whenever we have apples, which is pretty often, we leave the cores in the yard. The squirrels and rabbits love them. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Need more snow

Really, we do not need more snow. 🙂 The weather and work have made it a bit tougher to get out to the usual places, but our feeders in the yard are hopping. I’m filling them up pretty much every day. Here are a few of the regulars. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Winter visitors

It’s always great to see all the visitors to the feeders at this time of year. Click on pictures to enlarge.

A great way to help birds this winter is to create a brush pile. It’s a good place to keep warm and hide from predators.

Hello

I have been a bit behind on updating the blog, but I hope to be posting quite a few updates this week. It’s always fun to go through the pictures again. When choosing which pics to post, I always see something new. It’s one of the things I love about photography. In the field, I see one thing, and the image on the camera LCD screen isn’t really big enough to see detail. At home, zooming in on the pictures, I may see that they are not quite as good as I thought they were going to be, or, I may find I am pleasantly surprised by color and expression that I could not see in detail when I took the picture.

I was standing under a power line in our backyard, taking pictures of robins, I think, when this squirrel came running along the line, paused briefly to look down at me, then went on his way. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Yard birds and one happy squirrel

The backyard is a wonderful place to spend some time. So many of us run out to our cars, run into the office, grocery store, etc., and never stop and look around, or look up. We’ve been trying to make a point of having our morning coffee in the yard (at least while it is still warm enough to do so). Once you start looking, start really paying attention to all the beings around you, you may find you’re not able to stop, and that’s not a bad thing. It happened to me. Click on pictures to enlarge.
