Seeing thousands of blackbirds taking off this morning with the big, beautiful moon in the background was incredible. I wish I’d had more time for setting up the shot, but that’s rarely possible with wildlife photography, and that’s just one of the beautiful things about it.
This fall weather is amazing. It was nice to leave for an appointment a couple of hours early and steal a bit of time at the lake. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Little specks of yellow dot the fields and the green is lush and fragrant. Dragonflies are everywhere. Thousands of voices sing. On this morning, I spotted deer, a host of blackbirds, grackles, robins, sparrows, catbirds, indigo buntings, painted buntings, northern cardinals, goldfinches, a huge diversity of frogs, a dickcissel singing loudly, wood ducks, turtles (snappers and painted), geese, great egrets, great blue herons, cattle egrets, little blue herons, mink, muskrats, and the hundreds more. It’s great to see everyone visiting the bird bath these days. I’ve got to figure out a cordless way to keep the water from freezing. Perhaps a solar-powered heater is in order. Click on pictures to enlarge.

The daffodils are blooming and everyone is singing. After taking the junco picture yesterday, I haven’t seen any around, or white-throated sparrows. I think the hot, strong, wind today was just what some of our migrating friends needed. Click on pictures to enlarge.

The snow is pretty much gone and it’s a beautiful 68 degrees today. I was wearing my gloves when out walking this morning. You know the cliche–wait five minutes and it will change. Grackles are landing in waves, chatting and shoving each other around at the feeder. The juncos are still here, but I imagine they will leave any day. The sparrow below is waiting for a sharp-shinned hawk to stop circling the yard. Click on pictures to enlarge.

The yard is buzzing with activity this morning. I think everyone is a little thrown by this storm. I filled the feeder yesterday afternoon and since taking these pictures it is nearly empty. I am happy that this latest round of snow probably won’t be around for long. I”m sure the birds are too. Click on pictures to enlarge.
