I love watching the robins feeding their kids. As hot as it has been, I have not seen them as often and was a bit worried that the heat was taking its toll this year. Good to see them! Click on pictures to enlarge.

Yellow-bellied sapsucker and other backyard visitors
Now that we have the feeders up, our list of backyard visitors is incredible. Click on pictures to enlarge.
The young ones
While the heat has made everyone a bit scarce these days, there are still quite a few young ones out in the morning, following their parents around, and taking advantage of the cooler temperatures (if one can call 80 cool!). Click on pictures to enlarge.
Robins and berries
The Wakarusa Wetlands were rowdy with robins a few weeks ago. I meant to upload these pics earlier. I am a bit behind in the updates again. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Nest building is hard work
I know I’ve said this before, but I love robins. We have robin families building nests and raising families all around us and I love every minute of watching them.
Nest building is serious business.
Nesting time again
It’s great to see the robins back, hard at work on the nest over our garage. They built there last year, but something (or someone) happened to the babies before it was time to fledge. I hope they have better luck this year.
Frosty Robins
I ran across hundreds of robins, quite a few starlings, and one lone grackle drinking and bathing in the icy water on the east side of Clinton Lake the other day. They were fun to watch until I realized I’d been standing there so long my face was frozen. 🙂 Of course, the beauty of Kansas is that it will reach 62 today. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Conversations around the bath
It’s great to see everyone visiting the bird bath these days. I’ve got to figure out a cordless way to keep the water from freezing. Perhaps a solar-powered heater is in order. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Visitors to the watering hole
It’s been pretty dry lately, so there are not a lot of puddles or other places with standing water. If you have a bird bath, it’s a good idea to keep it clean and filled up right now. The birds will thank you. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Robins
The robins are getting together in their winter groups. It’s nice to see them coming through the neighborhood. It’s particularly nice to see so many young ones in the group. They love bathing. 🙂 Click on pictures to enlarge.
