Flying 101

After the scary storms last night, we couldn’t wait to get out this morning and check on our eagle family. Everyone seemed fine and we were treated to a flight from the eaglet we lovingly refer to as “Scraggles.” I also saw a belted kingfisher, but I wasn’t quick enough with the camera. No Flying Today

We didn’t see any flying at the nest today, but it was very windy this morning. A man drove up and told us that she flies out in the afternoon, runs around in the field, then flies back up to the nest. We checked in later and she wasn’t on the nest, but we saw both parents on a low branch much further back from the nest. We have strong storms moving in and are hoping they have picked a safe place to ride it out. Click on picture to enlarge.

She did it!

We don’t really know she is a girl, but hey, we think she ought to be. We were last at the nest on Saturday and she wasn’t flying (as far as we knew). This morning, she made three short flights while we were there. We gasped and cried when she took off the first time. What a beautiful gift. While she might have put her landing gear down a little prematurely, she made three impressive landings. Click on the pictures to enlarge.
