Another winter wonderland this morning. I rushed out to throw some seed out for the birds and check on the feeder. While I have to admit I am getting a bit tired of this, there is something magical about the snow coming down and how quiet our neighborhood is on a Sunday morning. I could hear a fox in the distance and a red-tailed hawk shouting out, but I didn’t see them. I did, however, see many of the regulars. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Polly is simply amazing. We’ve discovered that many searches for “white-headed cardinal” end here. So, without further ado… Click on pictures to enlarge.

The last few days have been pretty dreary, but at least we don’t have to contend with the frigid temps for a while. I am, however, missing the nice light for pictures. Click on pictures to enlarge.

I’ve written before about the beautiful white-headed northern cardinal that nests in our yard (we call her Polly because she looks a bit like a parrot). I am always on the lookout for her. I saw her quite a bit before the extreme could, which was when these pictures were taken. I didn’t see her for several days after the subzero temps, so I got a little worried. I am happy to report that I saw her yesterday and she seems to have made it through the cold snap just fine. She is quite something. Click on pictures to enlarge.

If you have been following the blog, you know we are privileged to have a lovely cardinal couple living in our backyard. She has a white head. She looks kind of parrot-like, so we call her Polly. I haven’t seen her around for a while, so it was great to see her hanging out enjoying the sun this morning. Click on picture to enlarge.

She has a new nest in the yard, just a few feet from the old one. She was taking a break outside the thicket this afternoon when I got these pics. She told me she needs more cantaloupe seeds. Click on pictures to enlarge.

The white-headed cardinal continues to visit, as well as the flickers. I am still hoping for nests in our backyard. Click on pictures to enlarge.
